Happy New Year!
Beverly has long enjoyed teaching screenwriting for UCLA Extension's world-famous Writers' Program. Starting on January 25, 2012, she will offer a ten-week online Intermediate Rewriting Workshop. Lots of personal attention guaranteed! For information, contact the Writers' Program at (310) 829-9415 or writers@uclaextension.edu. Click here (PDF) for the Writers' Program winter schedule, then scroll to page 141 for more info on Beverly's course.
Beverly has been invited to speak at the Southwest Texas Popular Culture and American Culture Association's annual conference, which will take place in Albuquerque from February 8-11, 2012. Her talk, to be presented as part of the conference's Stardom and Fandom session, is titled "Fans of Slumber Party Massacre: Their Hearts are Young and Gay." Her scholarly paper on this subject grew out of one of her very favorite blog posts.
On April 27, 2012, Beverly will return to New York City to moderate a stellar panel for the American Society of Journalists and Authors. The topic is "Inside Investigative Journalism," and Beverly's guests include two Pulitzer Prize winners, Barton Gellman (now of Time Magazine) and Kate Zernike of the New York Times. For more on the conference, see the ASJA conference link.
Calling all biographers and aspiring biographers: the new Biographers International Organization will be holding its third annual conference in Los Angeles on May 18-20, 2012. Several sessions should be of special interest to those hoping to write about Hollywood, but a wide range of practical and informative panels will be on tap. You don't need to be a current BIO member to take advantage of the chance to hobnob with internationally-known biographers. Beverly is serving as the local chair, and will also speak at a session on Blogging to Boost Sales. For details, check out the BIO site or contact Beverly at beverly@beverlygray.com.
